A Mechanical Assembly in SOLIDWORKS

My SOLIDWORKS final: a multi-part lifting assembly modeled from scratch, each part drawn on its own and then fitted together.

A SOLIDWORKS render of an assembled mechanical lifting mechanism

About the Project

For my SOLIDWORKS final I modeled a mechanical lifting assembly from the ground up: a hoist bar, torque tube, connector tube, eye bolt, handle, loop holder, and pin, each drawn as its own part and then mated together into one working assembly.

This is where computer science and making things with my hands meet. Before college I trained as a CNC machinist at Acutec Precision Aerospace, reading blueprints and checking parts to tolerance. CAD is the same thinking from the other direction: designing the part that someone like my past self will one day hold.
