Movie Helper

A web app that tells you which country to point your VPN at to watch a specific movie on each streaming service.

Illustrated screen with a play button and streaming service pills

Overview

Streaming catalogs change by country, which is annoying when the movie you want exists somewhere, just not where you are. Movie Helper searches a movie name across more than 20 streaming platforms (Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Mubi, BBC iPlayer, and plenty more) and shows every country where each service carries it, across 60+ countries. Then you connect your VPN to that country and click the direct watch link.

Features

  • Search by movie name across all services, or filter to just one
  • Shows the availability type: subscription, rent, buy, or free
  • Movie posters, release years, descriptions, and quality badges like HD and 4K when the API provides them
  • Direct links to the movie on each platform, with service-specific branding
  • Fully responsive layout

Stack

The backend is Node.js with Express, the frontend is plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and the data comes from the Streaming Availability API through RapidAPI. The free tier allows 100 requests a month, so I kept the whole thing light.
