About the Work
A kaleidoscope is usually a private machine: one eye, one person, one tube. This prototype flips that. I built a kaleidoscope from iridescent film and pointed it into a projector, so the pattern fills the wall and the whole room is inside the kaleidoscope together.
It was made for my Art Intersects Science and Culture class as an idea for a public work. The dream version scales up: a shared, room-sized instrument where the audience does not take turns looking, because everyone is already in it.
