About the Work
For my Photography II work I took a plain, deadpan self portrait and handed it to Photoshop's generative AI with the most neutral prompts I could write: give her a cool new hat, an awesome jacket, a new shirt.
Because the subject, me, reads as a woman, the machine made the same assumption every single time. The cool hat came back pink. The awesome jacket came back with flowers and pearls. My face never changes across the series. The only thing that shifts is what the machine decided a woman should want.
It is a quieter cousin of Readable. That piece runs analysis on faces; this one dresses them. Both are about the defaults a machine reaches for the moment it thinks it knows who you are.
